When I first started working out, years ago, I wore oversized tees and uncomfortable leggings. It was a nightmare. But it’s also all that was really available for me. And when I say available for me, I mean in my size, and actually stylish and comfortable. Not to mention, feeling so excluded in that way just added unnecessary emotional discomfort in myself. It was an endless cycle.
Over the last two years or so, since the beginning of this mindset/narrative shift, I’ve been taking moments to embrace the bits and pieces of myself that crave style in my activewear, and not just comfort. Because for a long time, I felt so undeserving of it. (That freaking “once I lose weight” narrative is strong in our society, but it’s time to let. it. go.)
I can’t even begin to describe the feeling of opening a box delivered to me, specifically styled for me, and all of the emotions it brought to the surface. It’s not silly or crazy of me to want activewear that is stylish and that actually fits. Items that I can pair with so many things and rock at the gym or during the chaos of busy mom-life. I am deserving. I am worthy. (On. Repeat.)
Now, where do we even find these stylish and comfortable items? Especially since not all brands even carry plus sizes, making the search feel even more daunting.
